This remarkable collection of photographs captures the devastation witnessed during the 1950 Red River Flood in the Point Douglas and Luxton areas of Winnipeg. Taken by Harold K. White, a local businessman and photographer, these images offer a vivid glimpse into one of the most significant natural disasters in our city’s history. When White’s business closed, he generously donated his photographic archive to the City of Winnipeg, preserving these important visual records for future generations.
We are deeply grateful to Martin Comeau at the City of Winnipeg Archives for kindly sending this newly-digitized photograph collection to the Seven Oaks Historical Society. Their preservation and sharing reflect a shared commitment to remembering our community’s past and the stories that have shaped it. Note: if using these images elsewhere, please credit Harold K. White Studios and the Winnipeg Archives.
